Vilafranca de Penedes, 8 minutes drive from our B&B is the capital of the wine region Penedès. Among the many wineries in Vilafranca, you'll find Torres, which over the last 30 years has put Penedès on the world map with its great wines and grand expansion.
Vilafranca has a big center full with shops, market, restaurants, museums and culture. Every Saturday the regions largest market is hold here when local farmers fill all the town’s central streets with their market stands. The Vinseum, the museum of wine and culture it’s located the the center of the town and it is open from Tuesday to Sunday all year around.
Castellers (Human Towers) is a very important tradition in Vilafranca and there are excihibitions throughout the year. Follow the link below to find out more about this incredible act.
Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, 10 minutes drive from the B&B, is the cradle and the capital of Cava, In Sant Sadurní d’Anoia everywhere you look there are Cavas (wineries for sparkling wines made with the traditional method, the same method used as to produce Champagne). The largest Cava producers are Freixenet and Codorniu.
The village does not have as much life as Vilafranca but there are some shops, great bakeries, bars, restaurants and of course many places where you can enjoy a great glass of Cava!
Another highlight is the chocolate factory Simon Coll where you can savour great chocolate and even enjoy a visit to learn the history of chocolate and learn about the production of this wonderful product.
Montserrat has a special place in the heart of the people of Penedès. On one hand it's protecting the valley from the cold northern winds creating a microclimate which is ideal for growing grapes. On the other hand it's a strong religious symbol for the whole Catalunya.
Montserrat can be reached easily by car from our B&B. It takes around 50 min to drive all the way up to the monastery. You can from here walk around the mountain or see the black Madonna inside the Basilica.
One thing that you shouldn't miss when you visit Montserrat is the L'Escolania boy choir. Normally the perform every day at 13:00 and 18:45 but to be completely sure, confirm on their website before your visit.
